The Lowest Greenville rezoning proposal - one bad flashback after another
At his advanced age, BD is prone to many medical issues. Gout one weekend, sinus pain the next, followed by a bad case of flatulence. Throw in living in a house with a bunch of girls of various ages, and hearing loss is a given. But during last week's meeting at Kush between the business owners, managers and property owners on Lowest Greenville and Angela Hunt and her gaggle of City staff and neighborhood leaders, BD found himself suffering another sign of advanced age.
Flashbacks.
It was late 2003 or early 2004, but definitely it was the winter time. BD was eating lunch in the very same place as the meeting - back then it was called Coconuts Grill. His hostess had invited him to lunch so she could learn everything possible about the problems on Lowest Greenville - in 45 minutes or less. BD gave his standard spiel: The bad bars on Lowest Greenville were ruining things for all the good businesses and residential neighborhoods around it. The answer was something so simple, it could be wrapped up in one phrase - A level playing field. If the City and all its different departments - Building Inspection, Code Compliance, DPD - would just get off its collective butt and shut down the bars that claimed to be restaurants, but did not have kitchens, let alone serve food, then we could all sit down and discuss the future of Lowest Greenville.
BD had the Kahuna burger, and his hostess had the salad.
Oh, the hostess? It was not-yet-a-city-council-member Angela Hunt.
Hotel Capri raided after underage drunks t-bone DPD squad car, injures officers
Updated @ 1130am and 1215pm Saturday; Video added at 515pm
The Dallas Police Department raided the Hotel Capri on Lowest Greenville early Saturday morning after two DPD officers were seriously injured in an accident caused by an intoxicated underage male driver.

According to DPD sources, two officers were on patrol not far from Lower Greenville when their squad car was t-boned by another vehicle around 11pm Friday evening. The female officer is reported to have a broken arm and collar bone. The male officer, a rookie who was driving the vehicle, suffered head injuries that caused blurry vision, possibly a concussion. During the investigation, the driver and his passenger were determined to be intoxicated and underage. They admitted to having partied at Hotel Capri (which BD can only surmise was confirmed in some way, such as credit card receipts).
Inside Pre-Meeting Meeting with businesses on proposed Lowest Greenville rezoning

Late last week, the newly formed Lowest Lower Greenville Avenue Business Association requested a meeting with council member Angela Hunt and Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Pauline Medrano to discuss their proposed plan to rezone
Lower Greenville Avenue as a Planned Development District. The LLGABA and the Greenville Avenue Restaurant Association were hoping to get together with the city folks in advance of the planned July 29 public meeting where Hunt, Medrano and other city staff will present plans for the PD to Lower Greenville residents, business owners and property owners.
A little parking sanity is coming to Henderson Avenue
With all the attention on the parking issues around Henderson Avenue (or as we like to call it, Lowest Greenville 1998), you get the feeling you've seen this before.
About 20 years ago, M Streets residents complained about the loss of parking on their streets. And poof, the Dallas Fire Department came along and designated a whole bunch of streets as One Side No Parking. The rule is simple - if a big firetruck can't put its support pads out without crushing a car, the signs go up.
Whole Foods buries its bones on Lowest Greenville
BD been getting calls in the wee hours about activity taking place inside the former Whole Foods location on Lowest Greenville. One day, it's a van full of men and women in black suits going inside for hours. The next day, it's work vans parked by the doors secretly unloading really big boxes of god knows what.
